Questions Factory

Questions Factory is a totally French independent studio, created and currently staffed by two developers: Azad Boubrit and Jérémi Mapas. It was founded in Brive-la-Gaillarde in 2021 and published its first game Bonding Ambivalence in October 2022. With its values of critical thinking and artistic creation, the studio aims to release works that use videogame immersion to question players on various political, psychological, philosophical, and other concepts.

Azad Boubrit aka Dazarious, CEO and co-founder

Enchanted by curiosity from a young age, Azad began his career in a chaotic manner, delving into multiple small personal projects. Among them were videos created with his friends, narrating little stories embellished with special effects. It was through these creations that he discovered a true passion for artistic creation. During his master’s studies in engineering, he fully engaged in the development of CGI cinematics using Blender. The revelation came to him while working as an engineer, where he learned computer programming. From then on, the idea of merging his programming skills with his passion for artistic creation took root in him. He opened a Pandora’s box: Unreal Engine 4, starting with very small escape games based on anecdotes and personalities of his group of friends. Small games designed to learn to entertain. In these games, he could test his ability to invent puzzles, do level design, sound design, C++ development, and create an atmosphere inspired by the memorable games of his childhood.

In 2019, during a simple coffee break with his coworker, Jérémi Mapas, a shared passion for video games was the catalyst that drove them to go further. They then decided to co-found their own studio: Questions Factory, the result of the collaboration between Azad and Jérémi. To kickstart their adventure, they opted for an ambitious, precise, and solid project: a cooperative escape game for two players. With Jérémi, Azad co-created the very essence of Bonding Ambivalence, drawing from his previous escape game creations (the famous delirium with ants had its origins there), combined with current inspirations, notably the cyberpunk universe.

The following two years were a challenging learning period, during which Azad familiarized himself with the various skills and discipline necessary for creating a video game of this scale: from 3D modeling to programming, musical composition, marketing, and business management. Bonding Ambivalence remains to this day one of the most ambitious projects of his entire life.

Jérémi Mapas aka Idreak, co-founder

Living in the Dordogne region of France, in a rural setting with few activities, and in a family where he was the only child, Jérémi quickly developed a passion for video games, thanks to his father, who taught him how to play on a computer, but also to a family friend who gave him a GameBoy with the Pokémon Gold game. Jérémi doesn’t know it yet, but he has just found his greatest passion, the one that will lead him to the creation of the biggest project of his life.

Throughout his teenage years, he continued his path as a video game consumer, testing games in all directions and becoming particularly passionate about the game Battlefield 3, where he had a short but intense amateur esports career. Then came his A-levels, and Jérémi asked himself a simple question: “Where should I go? His lack of knowledge of the environment and his family’s lack of means led him to make a pragmatic choice: a preparatory class to enter an engineering school.

Apart from a few volunteer experiences in esport associations, Jérémi remained far removed from videogame creation until the day he met Azad after graduating from engineering school. The connection between the two was so strong that they embarked on the crazy project of setting up a video game development company in 2021.

The two years that followed were very intense for Jérémi, who was completing his thesis while Dazarious worked heart and soul on the development of the game. Jérémi was there to support Dazarious in several areas, including game design, marketing, 2D asset production, testing and company creation. Today, Jérémi describes the Bonding Ambivalence project as the hardest and most rewarding project of his life.
